Evaluation of Oral Hygiene Status, Salivary Fluoride Concentration and Microbial Level in Thalassemic and Hemophilic Patients

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate oral hygiene status, salivary fluoride concentration, and Streptococcus mutans Lactobacillus levels in saliva of thalassemic, hemophilic individuals without any other systemic disorders.Materials Methods: A total 162 (44 healthy individuals, 86 thalassemic 32 patients) were selected, randomly (n=30 each group), the patients allocated Group A: condition, B: patients, C: patients. Detailed case history, DMFT/DMFS, OHI-S index recorded. An aliquot 5 ml was collected from patient determine concentration predominant microbial colony saliva. The data analyzed by chi-square test independence nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis H test.Results: mean debris calculus among groups A, B, C 0.55 ± 0.43, 0.61 0.46, 0.46 0.47 0.33 0.48, 0.18 0.34, 0.15 respectively. DMFT score for group high (1.93 1.86, 1.67 1.92) compared B (0.40 0.77, 0.67 1.37) (0.47 0.68, 0.30 0.54). concentrations three (A, C) 0.06 0.07, 0.12 0.13, 0.13 ppm number colony-forming units highest individual>hemophilic>thalassemic presence microorganisms showed insignificant association (p=0.323).Conclusion: Compared had better hygiene.
